In 1994, Mr. Jean-Noël Frydman bought the domain name FRANCE.COM in order to create a website for tourists visiting the country.
More than 10 years after, the French Foreign Affairs Ministry sued Mr. Frydman before the Courts to get back the domain name, on the ground of its trademark FRANCE.
The Paris Court of Appeal stated in its favor in 2017 and the ministry contacted the registrar Web.com for the technical transfer of the domain name, which was effective in March 2018.
The French entrepreneur does not intend to accept this decision and has decided to sue the French Republic, the ministry of Foreign affairs, etc before an American Court for cybersquatting.
