A tax payable yearly to keep patent or utility certificate applications and granted patent or utility certificates in force. It must be paid no later than the expiration of the anniversary month of the patent filing. The amount of the annuities increases as the patent ages. Managing these deadlines is crucial, as failure to pay an annuity results in the forfeiture of the right.
