Since 2009, pop singer Katy Perry and fashion designer Katie Janes Taylor (née Perry) have been at loggerheads in Australia over the artist’s name taken by the former, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson.
On appeal, the Federal Court of Australia ruled in favor of the singer, who will be able to continue using her name as a trademark in the country. The judges cited the fact that she had used her name five years before the “Katie Perry” clothes were launched on the market. As a result, they cancelled the registration of the fashion trademark.
